Jess Áine Barry is an artist and emerging writer living and working in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She is a Leo sun, Scorpio moon and Sagittarius rising. She vibes with her rising sign; reading, writing, painting and star gazing before galloping off into the woods. She works mainly with acrylic on canvas and wood and with textiles. She has been shortlisted and exhibited both in the UK and Australia and has been a recipient of government grants to exhibit and for mentorship. She works in a naïve style that references the decorative arts, illuminated manuscripts, mediaeval, insular art and fairy-tale illustrations, creating nature motifs and insignia for peaceful nature lovers. Her works question the idea that only warring conquerors deserve symbols that convey meaning for themselves and for others. She puts women and nature at the centre of her work.
